This week we present Alaskan author, Kellie Doherty. Currently a resident of Eagle River, Ms. Doherty lives just outside of Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage. While Kellie lived in Portland years ago, she states she loves writing in Alaska, because its “long, cold, dark winters make for the perfect backdrop for writing in front of a fire, warm drink within reach, and cats snoozing on my lap.” Thankfully, she’s not only into winter writing, as the extended days brought by our midnight sun in the summer helps her pull together projects too by working longer hours.
Ms. Doherty is the author of two novels: Finding Hekate and Losing Hold, the Cicatrix duology. Her inspiration for the two books developed out of a college class short story assignment. Falling in love with the protagonist, Mia, brought Kellie to a deeper journey of exploring Mia’s story and her motivation, brokenness, and strengths. Readers will relate to Finding Hekate’s main character because of how realistic she is. She is a character with past mistakes that produced a strong resolve but also an emotional defensiveness. Whether you’re new to the Sci-Fi genre or a die-hard fan of it, Finding Hekate is sure to be a favorite. Readers will journey through a hunter-hunted plot mentality while exploring the benefits, challenges, and consequences of technology. For an excellent blend of Sci-Fi, action, humor, and even a little romance consider exploring the Cicatrix duology. Finding Hekate Synoposis: Mia Foley is running away from the attack that changed her life. She’s captain of a new spaceship when the Acedians find her and try blasting her peaceful crew from the black. She must sever her bonds in order to run, again. But she’s grown fond of this crew, particularly Cassidy Gates. Staying with them will jeopardize their safety, and they have much closer fears than the Acedian hunters. Mia’s time is running out. She’s becoming one of them.
